Commitment to a Ragging-Free Campus

Uma Shankar Education is firmly committed to providing a learning environment that is safe, disciplined, and respectful for all students. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited within the institute campus, hostels, classrooms, playgrounds, transportation, online platforms, or any location connected with the institution.

The institute follows a zero-tolerance approach towards ragging and ensures that every student can pursue education with dignity, confidence, and peace of mind.

Definition of Ragging

Ragging refers to any conduct, whether verbal, physical, written, or psychological, that causes or is likely to cause physical harm, mental distress, fear, humiliation, or embarrassment to a student.

Ragging includes, but is not limited to:

  • Any act of physical abuse, assault, or forced physical activity

  • Verbal abuse, teasing, insulting language, threats, or intimidation

  • Psychological harassment such as isolation, pressure, or coercion

  • Compelling a student to perform acts that violate their dignity

  • Any form of sexual misconduct, gestures, or remarks

  • Ragging through electronic means including social media, messages, calls, or emails

Both active participation and silent encouragement of ragging are considered offences.

Scope of the Policy

This Anti-Ragging Policy applies to:

  • All students, senior or junior

  • Academic and non-academic areas

  • On-campus and off-campus locations linked to the institute

  • Online interactions related to institute activities

  • Hostel premises and transportation facilities

The policy is applicable throughout the duration of a student’s association with the institute.

Legal Provisions

Ragging is a serious criminal offence and is punishable under Indian law. The institute acts in accordance with:

  • Orders and guidelines of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India

  • Regulations issued by statutory and regulatory authorities

  • Applicable provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)

Any student found guilty of ragging may face institutional disciplinary action along with legal consequences, including police action wherever necessary.

Preventive Measures Adopted by the Institute

Uma Shankar Education undertakes multiple preventive steps to ensure a ragging-free campus, including:

  • Constitution of an Anti-Ragging Committee

  • Formation of an Anti-Ragging Squad for monitoring

  • Orientation and awareness programs for new students

  • Counseling support for freshers

  • Display of anti-ragging notices at prominent locations

  • Regular monitoring of campus activities and student behavior

Anti-Ragging Committee

The institute has established an Anti-Ragging Committee consisting of senior faculty members and administrative officials. The committee is responsible for:

  • Preventing incidents of ragging

  • Receiving and examining complaints

  • Conducting inquiries in a fair and timely manner

  • Recommending disciplinary action

  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of students

Anti-Ragging Squad

An Anti-Ragging Squad operates under the supervision of the Anti-Ragging Committee. The squad conducts surprise checks and closely monitors areas where ragging is more likely to occur, ensuring immediate action in case of any incident.

Punishments for Ragging

Depending on the severity and nature of the offence, one or more of the following punishments may be imposed:

  • Written warning or apology

  • Suspension from attending classes

  • Withholding of examination results

  • Cancellation of admission

  • Debarment from academic activities

  • Rustication from the institute

  • Filing of a police complaint

The decision of the institute authorities shall be final and binding.

Procedure for Reporting Ragging

Students who experience or witness ragging are strongly encouraged to report the incident immediately. Complaints can be made to:

  • Any faculty member

  • Institute administration

  • Anti-Ragging Committee

  • Designated contact details of the institute

All complaints will be handled with strict confidentiality, and the identity of the complainant will be protected to prevent retaliation.

Responsibilities of Students

Every student of Uma Shankar Education is expected to:

  • Respect fellow students and staff

  • Maintain discipline and ethical conduct

  • Refrain from participating in or encouraging ragging

  • Report incidents of ragging without fear

  • Cooperate fully with the institute during inquiries

Lack of awareness or intent will not be accepted as a defense.

Undertaking by Students and Parents

At the time of admission, students and their parents or guardians are required to submit an undertaking stating that they:

  • Have read and understood the Anti-Ragging Policy

  • Agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the institute

  • Accept the disciplinary and legal consequences of violating the policy

Institutional Assurance

Uma Shankar Education assures all students and parents that the institute will take prompt, impartial, and strict action against any act of ragging. The safety, dignity, and mental well-being of students remain our highest priority.

Ragging has no place in education.
